Leicester aims to play a vertical game driven by quick transitions and high intensity. This 2-4-4 formation focuses on overwhelming the opposition in the final third and pressing hard to regain the ball. The Leicester lineup is built to catch opponents out of position by moving from a defensive stance into a heavy attacking wave with very little warning.

M. Hermansen acts as the goalkeeper, providing a base for the team to play out from the back. In front of him, a narrow defensive block consists of C. Okoli and W. Faes as central defenders. These two must defend man-to-man in many situations and stay concentrated to avoid being split by long balls. Because the formation uses only two central defenders, Okoli and Faes must stay close together to cover the space behind them and avoid being pulled too far wide.

The midfield is organized as a four man unit to control the center of the pitch. W. Ndidi works to shield the defence and win the second ball, acting as the primary anchor. R. Pereira and V. Kristiansen operate in the half spaces to connect the defence and attack, often pushing high to support the forwards. M. Golding plays as an attacking ten, sitting in the hole to find pockets of space and deliver passes to the front line. This midfield unit must work hard to squeeze the space and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

The attacking unit uses four players to stretch the defence across the pitch. I. Fatawu and S. Mavididi act as wide wingers who want to isolate defenders in one on one situations. I. Fatawu looks to drive at the opposition to create space for others, while S. Mavididi uses his movement to find gaps. Up front, T. Cannon and P. Daka operate as two forwards in a partnership. They use their speed to hit in behind on the transition and work together to pin the last defender, often looking for quick combinations to break the line.

This formation offers significant advantages through its ability to create wide overloads and heavy pressure in the final third. By pushing the midfield and attack high, Leicester can press from the front to force a long ball or win it back high up the pitch. The sheer number of players in the attacking zones makes it very difficult for opponents to defend the box or track all the runners.

This aggressive 2-4-4 formation is designed to overwhelm opponents through rapid transitions and heavy pressing. It is best suited for games where the team needs to chase a result against a side that plays a high line.
