These two central defenders must hold a high line to keep the team compact and ready to win it back high up the pitch.

The midfield is the engine of this formation, utilizing a five man unit that can shift based on ball position. Timber and Zinchenko act as the double pivot, with Zinchenko often tucking inside to help control the center. Jorginho sits as a deep lying playmaker, using his exceptional passing range to switch play and find teammates. Rice provides energy to drive forward with the ball and covers the space left by attacking players. Havertz operates in the hole as an attacking ten, making late runs into the box to support the front line and connecting the midfield to the attackers.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to pin the opposition defense. Ødegaard plays on the left as an inverted winger who cuts inside to create chances, while Saka occupies the right wing and looks to isolate his marker to get to the byline. G. Jesus leads the line as a pressing centre forward, using his movement to find pockets of space and link up play between the lines. This front three works to pull wide and stretch the defence, creating gaps for the midfielders to exploit.

One major advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in midfield, which allows the team to control the center and win second balls easily.
