Starting Lineup
Epolo (Henkinet) · Sutalo (Noubi) · Doumbia (Dierckx) · Ngoy (Hautekiet) · Fossey (Lawrence) · O'Neill (Price) · Sahabo (Bulat) · Kawabe (Bulat) · Bolingoli (Doumbia) · Benjdida (Tapsoba) · KyeiStandard aims to control the tempo and dominate central areas using a 3-5-2. This formation is built to play a high press and use a strong central core to dictate the game. By packing the middle of the pitch, Standard can control the ball and win the second ball frequently to maintain pressure on the opposition.
Epolo plays behind a back three that provides a solid base for the team. Doumbia sits in the center as the main defender to win the header and clear the lines when under pressure. Ngoy acts as the left centre back and Sutalo operates as the right centre back, both ready to step up to squeeze the space or cover for the midfielders. The defensive unit stays compact to deny the turn of any oncoming attackers.
The midfield is a dense five man block designed to win the ball back high up the pitch. Kawabe and O'Neill work as a double pivot to shield the defence and protect the back three. In front of them, Bolingoli, Fossey, and Sahabo operate in the half spaces to link the defensive and attacking lines. Sahabo helps to connect the play, while Bolingoli and Fossey are tasked to carry the ball forward and press aggressively to win the ball in the middle third.
Standard uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Kyei and Benjdida work together to press the opposition back line and find space between the defenders. The team builds in combinations, with the midfielders looking to play through the lines to find the feet of the striker. Kyei and Benjdida often make runs in behind to stretch the defence, creating chances for the midfielders to arrive late into the box or whip it in from wide areas.
A major advantage for this lineup is the numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the center. The team can also use the three central defenders to stay compact when defending a lead. Another strength is the ability to transition quickly, as the ball can be moved from the double pivot to the two forwards with great speed to hit in behind on the transition.
This 3-5-2 formation provides a heavy central presence that is perfect for dominating possession. It is best suited for games against teams that try to play through the middle or rely on a single target man.
