Starting Lineup

Gagan · Dhanush · Rihan · Mani · Rachit · Manthan · Kshitij · Ajay · Abhinav · Vikas · Daivik

Bengaluru relies on a high press to win the ball high up the pitch within a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to play a vertical game that uses intense running to disrupt the opposition. The goal is to squeeze the space in the middle and force turnovers in the final third to catch the opponent out of position.

Daivik sits between the posts to command his area. The defensive unit operates as a flat back four where Mani and Rachit provide the width. Mani acts as a left back to cover the flank while Rachit plays as a right back to track runners. In the center, Gagan and Rihan form the heart of the defense. Rihan and Gagan must stay compact to protect the central zone and win the second ball when the midfield is bypassed.

The midfield setup uses a double pivot to protect the back four. Dhanush and Kshitij act as the two holding players who shield the defense and intercept passes. Ahead of them, Abhinav and Vikas operate as two central midfielders who connect the defensive and attacking lines. They are tasked to carry the ball forward and win the second ball in the middle third. Ajay plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space and provide the final pass.

Manthan operates as a lone striker to lead the press from the front. He must work to pin the last defender and hold up the ball to allow the midfield to join the attack. The team looks to attack in combinations through the middle or via quick transitions. When the ball is won, Ajay and the wide midfielders look to play through the lines to find Manthan making runs in behind. The wide players must also help the full backs to prevent being overloaded.

One major advantage for Bengaluru is the ability to press in coordinated waves to force a long ball. By having Ajay and Manthan close down the opposition, the midfield unit can press in a mid-block to win the ball back quickly. Another strength is the compactness when defending, as the five midfielders can easily drop to form a narrow defensive block that is very hard to break through centrally.

This 4-5-1 formation is designed to overwhelm opponents through physical intensity and quick transitions. It is best suited for games against teams that try to build play slowly from the back.
