In the attacking third, Germany utilizes a lone striker in Kai Havertz. Havertz acts as a pressing centre forward to disrupt the opposition build up and hold up the ball for the oncoming midfielders. The wide players, Sane and Musiala, do not stay wide but instead cut inside to create numerical superiority in the central areas. This movement allows the team to attack in combinations and create runs in behind the opposition defense.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages such as control of the central areas through a dense midfield. The team can create wide overloads when Raum pushes high to overlap the winger. Germany can also trigger a press in coordinated waves to win it back high up the pitch.
