Iran National Football Team Formation
Starting Lineup
Ansarifard · Taremi · Ghoddos · Sarlak · Gholizadeh · Ezatolahi · Hajsafi · Kanaani · Khalilzadeh · Moharrami · BeiranvandIran aims to be defensively solid by sitting deep and looking to hit teams on the break. This is a 5-4-1 formation designed to protect the central areas and stay compact. The lineup relies on a heavy defensive presence to absorb pressure before looking for quick transitions to Ansarifard.
Beiranvand stays on his line to command his area and provide a sense of security. In front of him, the back five operates as a narrow defensive block. Ezatolahi sits in the middle of the defense as the central anchor to win headers and clear the lines. To his left, Kanaani acts as a ball playing defender, while Khalilzadeh provides extra cover to stop any runs in behind. The wing backs, Moharrami and Hajsafi, provide the necessary width, but they must track back quickly to form a solid line when the opposition has the ball.
The midfield works as a flat four to control the central zone. Sarlak operates as the engine to win the second ball and shield the back five. Ghoddos plays in the half spaces to connect the defense to the attack, using his technical ability to link play. On the flanks, Gholizadeh and Taremi act as wide midfielders who help the wing backs defend while staying ready to drive forward. This midfield line must press in a mid-block to force the opposition wide and deny passing lanes through the center.
Ansarifard operates as a lone striker, acting as a focal point to hold up the ball. He must fight against two central defenders to allow the wide players like Taremi and Gholizadeh to join the attack. The team builds play by finding the feet of the striker or using long balls to bypass the midfield. When the team wins the ball back high up the pitch, the wing backs push up to provide width and deliver crosses into the box.
One major advantage for Iran is the compactness when defending deep in their own half. The five defenders and four midfielders make it very hard for opponents to find space between the lines. Another strength is the ability to counter at pace once the midfield wins possession. By using the width provided by Hajsafi and Moharrami, the team can stretch the opposition defense during a quick break.
This formation provides a very sturdy defensive base that is hard to break down. It is best suited for matches against dominant teams where Iran needs to sit deep and defend for long periods.
