PSG aims to control the ball and pin the opposition back through a 2-5-3 formation. The team plays a very vertical style of football, looking to win the ball high up the pitch and move through the lines quickly. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opponent in the final third by keeping many players ahead of the ball and constantly searching for gaps in the defence.

Donnarumma stays between the posts to sweep behind a high line. The defensive unit relies on a back two consisting of Marquinhos and Skriniar. Marquinhos acts as a ball playing defender who can step into midfield, while Skriniar remains to win the header and cover the space behind his partner. Because there are only two central defenders, the unit must hold a high line and press the opposition forwards to prevent them from playing long balls or finding space.

The midfield contains five players who control the center of the pitch. L. Hernandez and Hakimi occupy the deep roles to shield the defence and provide width. Vitinha and Ruiz work in the half spaces to recycle possession and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Simons plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box. This five man midfield allows PSG to win the second ball and keep the ball in tight spaces.

The attack features three players across the front. Asensio and Dembélé operate as inverted wingers who cut inside to create threats from the flanks. Dembélé uses his dribbling style to beat his marker and get to the byline. G. Ramos leads the line as a pressing centre forward, constantly trying to pin the last defender and make runs in behind. The team attacks in combinations, with Simons playing through the lines to find the forwards or delivering early passes.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, specifically a massive numerical superiority in midfield. By having five players in the center, PSG can easily control the tempo and squeeze the space available to the opposition. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and Simons to trigger a press immediately upon losing the ball. This makes it very hard for opponents to play out from the back or find easy passing lanes.

The 2-5-3 formation defines a heavy attacking identity focused on total control and verticality. It is best suited for games where PSG faces a low block and needs to break lines through constant pressure and midfield dominance.
