Sporting CP aims to dominate matches through a high press and quick vertical transitions. This is achieved using a 3-4-3 formation that looks to pin the opposition back in their own half. The lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately attack the space behind the defensive line.

V. Kovacevic stays between the posts to act as the starting point for playing out from the back. The back three consists of G. Inacio, O. Diomande, and Z. Debast working as a unit. G. Inacio acts as a ball playing defender with his ability to progress the ball with short passes. O. Diomande and Z. Debast provide aerial strength and cover the space behind the midfield. This defensive line can step up to squeeze the space and catch opponents playing long balls.

The midfield operates with a central engine designed to control the tempo and win the second ball. M. Hjulmand sits in front of the defense to shield the back three and intercept passes. M. Reis works alongside I. Fresneda to carry the ball forward and connect the defensive and attacking lines. P. Goncalves plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find the feet of the forwards. This group can press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch before the opponent can settle.

In the attacking phase, Sporting CP uses three attackers to stretch the defence. V. Gyokeres acts as a powerful pressing centre forward who can hold up the ball and lead the line. N. Santos and Trincao operate as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create chances. They use their speed to hit in behind on the transition when the opposition is caught out. The forwards work in combinations to pull wide and create space for late runs from the midfield.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. By using a three man back line and a strong midfield, Sporting CP can maintain compactness when defending. The team also excels at creating wide overloads when the midfielders push up to support the wingers. This allows the side to dominate territory and keep the ball in the final third.

The 3-4-3 formation provides Sporting CP with a heavy offensive presence and high pressing intensity. It is best suited for games against teams that try to build slowly from the back.
