Leno stays between the posts to command the area. A flat back four provides the base for the defense with Diop acting as a ball playing defender alongside Bassey who provides aerial strength. The defensive unit must stay compact and hold the line to prevent through balls.

The midfield consists of a double pivot with Reed and Cairney sitting deep to shield the defense. Cairney works to recycle possession and find the feet of the striker. Ahead of them, Iwobi, A Pereira, and Smith-Rowe occupy the half spaces to link the lines. Smith-Rowe and Iwobi look to carry the ball forward and drive into the box, while A Pereira connects the defensive and attacking units by receiving the ball and playing through the lines.

Muniz acts as a lone striker and a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition back line. He works to hold up the ball and wait for the midfield to arrive. The attackers use combinations to move the ball into the final third, often looking to isolate a one on one wide or find Muniz with a cross. When the team loses the ball, the front five press in pairs to win it back high up the pitch.

One major advantage for Fulham is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball. The formation also allows for numerical superiority in midfield when the wide players tuck inside to congest the center. This makes it difficult for opponents to play short from the back and allows the team to win the second ball frequently.
