The midfield operates as a block of four to bridge the gap between the defense and attack. Strinic and Hysaj function as a double pivot to shield the two center backs. Hysaj works to win the second ball while Strinic looks to recycle possession. Ahead of them, Hamsik and Jorginho play as attacking midfielders in the half spaces. Hamsik uses his passing range to break the line, and Jorginho works to find the feet of the attackers. They are tasked to compress the midfield and press aggressively to win the ball.

The front line utilizes four attackers to stretch the defence. Callejon and Mertens operate on the flanks as wide wingers to provide width and deliver crosses. Cavani acts as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender, while Insigne plays as a second striker to find space between the lines. The attack is built to create runs in behind and allow for combinations in tight spaces. When Napoli wins the ball, they look to hit in behind on the transition.
