Nigeria focuses on a high press and rapid vertical transitions using a 4-2-4. This formation is built to play direct football that catches the opposition out of position before they can get set. In the center, I. Ogbu and C. Bassey defend the space, with Bassey providing aerial strength and Ogbu acting as a covering defender. The defensive unit works to hold the line and prevent runners from getting behind the back four.

The midfield consists of a double pivot to provide stability in front of the defense. W. Ndidi serves as the primary shield for the back four, using his high pressing intensity to win the ball back in the middle third. J. Aribo works alongside him to connect the defense to the attack, carrying the ball forward to link the lines. This pairing must remain compact to prevent the opposition from playing through the center.

Nigeria uses two central forwards in a partnership of V. Osimhen and V. Boniface to pin the last defender. Osimhen uses his extreme speed and pressing intensity to harass the opposition back line, while Boniface provides a physical presence to hold up the ball. On the wings, S. Chukwueze and A. Iwobi act as wide wingers who cut inside to create more central presence. They look to spread wide to stretch the defense before looking to play through the lines to the strikers.

The main advantage of this lineup is the ability to create wide overloads and play in transition. With four attackers, Nigeria can quickly hit in behind on the transition to exploit spaces left by attacking opponents. The combination of a physical strike force and fast wingers allows them to win the second ball and move the play forward with great speed.
