Starting Lineup

ARIAS · MURA · SOSA · COLOMBO · ROJAS · ZUCULINI/ BARRIOS · NARDONI · ALMENDRA · SOLARI · SALAS · A. MARTINEZ

Racing Club operates with a heavy focus on verticality and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup aims to dominate wide areas while maintaining enough numbers in the middle to react to opposition play. By utilizing a back five, the team can quickly shift from a defensive block to an attacking front.

ARIAS sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a central trio where ZUCULINI/ BARRIOS acts as the anchor to protect the zone. SOSA plays as the right centre-back to cover ground, while COLOMBO occupies the left centre-back position. To provide width, MURA works as the right wing back to push high up the pitch, and ROJAS operates as the left wing back to overlap and support the attack. The defensive unit works to stay compact and hold the line when the team sits deep.

The midfield functions as a double pivot designed to control the tempo and secure the center. NARDONI and ALMENDRA operate in the central spaces to connect the defense to the forwards. NARDONI works to win the second ball and drive forward with the ball, while ALMENDRA helps to shield the defense and recycle possession. This pair must be ready to press in a mid-block to stop the opposition from playing through the lines.

Racing Club utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. A. MARTINEZ acts as the central striker to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball. On the wings, SALAS plays as a wide winger on the left, while SOLARI operates on the right. Both SALAS and SOLARI look to cut inside to create chances or pull wide to deliver a cross. The attack relies on quick combinations to hit in behind on the transition and exploit gaps left by the opposition.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through wide overloads. When MURA and SOLARI push up together, they create a two on one situation against the opposition full back. The team also benefits from a high level of compactness when defending, as the five defenders and two midfielders can quickly squeeze the space. This allows Racing Club to win the ball back high up the pitch and launch immediate attacks.

The 5-2-3 formation provides Racing Club with a balance of defensive solidity and attacking width. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with high wingers or those that struggle to defend against rapid counter attacks.
