Germany aims to control the middle of the pitch and squeeze the space between lines using a 4-5-1. A heavy press allows them to win the ball back high up the pitch and then strike quickly in transition. Such a lineup relies on a dense midfield to clog passing lanes and prevent the opponent from playing through the thirds or finding space.

Doksuri sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. Using a flat back four provides the base, with JH Park and HS Kim acting as full backs who can step up to support the press. Dongu Kang and Heavy play as the central defenders, tasked to hold the line and win the header when the opposition crosses. They must be ready to defend zonally and pick up runners as the team shifts from a mid-block to a high press.

Midfield balance relies on a double pivot. Pang and JH Won sit in front of the defense to shield the back four and recycle possession. Yes Hwang operates as the central carrier to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Further forward, By Jeong and KW Choi play in the half-spaces to create chances. These players must press aggressively to win the ball and look to play through the lines to reach the lone striker.

W Min acts as the lone striker, working to hold up the ball and wait for support. Support comes from By Jeong and KW Choi who cut inside and provide service from the wide areas. Instead of wide wingers hugging the touchline, the width often comes from JH Park and HS Kim overlapping the wide players. The striker must press the opposition back line to force a long ball, allowing the midfield to win the second ball.

Controlling the central area provides Germany a huge advantage through numerical superiority. By using five midfielders, the team can easily compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition playmakers. Another strength is the ability to press in coordinated waves, with W Min leading the charge while the attacking midfielders squeeze the space behind him. This creates a compact formation that is very difficult to break down during sustained periods of pressure.

The 4-5-1 formation is perfect for a team that wants to dominate the central zone and strike on the break. It is best suited for matches against opponents who rely heavily on central playmaking and require a high level of physical intensity to bypass the midfield.
