Atlético focuses on a high press and rapid verticality with a 3-3-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition through sheer numbers in the attacking third. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move the ball quickly toward the goals to catch the defense before they can settle.

Jan Oblak acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of Gimenez, Belm, and Le Normand. Gimenez plays as the central figure who is dominant in the air and directs the line. Belm and Le Normand provide cover on either side, working to squeeze the space and prevent runners from finding gaps. The defensive unit functions as a single block to deny the turn to any incoming attackers.

The midfield consists of a three-man midfield with a carrier. De Paul plays a vital role to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often carrying the ball forward to drive the play. Molina and Lino operate on either side to provide support, with Lino helping to press aggressively to win the ball high in the middle third. This trio works to control the tempo and ensures the team can transition from a defensive position to an offensive one without delay.

Up front, the attack uses two forwards in a partnership of Griezmann and Sorloth, supported by two wide attackers. Griezmann acts as a second striker in the hole to link up play between the lines, while Sorloth acts as a target man to hold up the ball and win the header. Gallaher and Yurente stay wide as wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the defence. This setup creates many runs in behind and allows the team to attack in combinations during quick transitions.

One major tactical advantage for Atlético is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, which forces many turnovers in dangerous areas. The formation also creates wide overloads by having the wingers and wide midfielders work together to pin the last defender. By playing with so many players forward, the team can quickly hit in behind on the transition and overwhelm a retreating back four.

This high intensity formation is built for teams that want to dominate through aggression and vertical movement. It is best suited for matches where the opponent struggles to play out from the back under heavy pressure.
