Matos acts as a defensive wing back to maintain balance, while Vierinhia stays tucked in to prevent crosses. In the center, Varela and Crespo act as the primary central defenders, with Varela using his aerial strength to win headers and Crespo providing cover to sweep behind the line.

The midfield consists of a double pivot tasked with controlling the tempo and protecting the back four. Mauricio and Shakhov operate as the central engine room, where Shakhov works to win the ball back and Mauricio looks to connect the defensive line to the attack. They must squeeze the space between the lines to ensure the opposition cannot play through the center. This pairing is vital for recycling possession and ensuring the team does not get bypassed in the middle third.

Attacking the opponent requires massive intensity from the four players in the front line. Prijovic acts as the target man to hold up the ball and contest long balls, while Pelkas plays as a second striker in the hole to arrive late into the box. On the wings, Warda and Jaba operate as wide wingers who stay high to stretch the defence. Warda looks to cut inside to create goalscoring chances, while Jaba uses his pace to hit in behind on the transition.

This 4-2-4 lineup offers significant advantages through its ability to create wide overloads and press in coordinated waves. By committing four players forward, PAOK can isolate defenders in one on one situations and force turnovers high up the pitch.
