Jan Oblak guards the goal, acting as a reliable presence between the posts. In front of him, a back three provides a solid foundation. Reinildo occupies the left side of the central defense, while Le Normand sits on the right, and Witsel acts as the central figure. Le Normand and Reinildo provide aerial strength, while Witsel can step into midfield to help build play. The defensive unit works together to hold a high line or drop into a low block depending on the game state.

The midfield operates with two central players and two wide players to cover the pitch. Koke, the captain (C), controls the rhythm from the middle, often dropping deep to receive the ball and recycle possession. Gallagher works alongside him, using his high pressing intensity to win the ball back high up the pitch. Lino and Nahuel act as wide midfielders, providing width and covering the flanks. Lino and Nahuel must track back to help the defenders, but they also push forward to support the attack.

The front line features three attackers working in close proximity. Sorloth operates as the lone striker and uses his physical presence to hold up the ball. Griezmann moves from the left into the half spaces, often dropping into midfield to link play. Julián provides width on the right, looking to cut inside and find space. This attacking trio presses the opposition back line, making runs in behind to catch defenders off guard.

Atlético benefits from several tactical advantages with this lineup. The three central defenders allow for compactness when defending against wide attacks. The high work rate of Gallagher and Koke allows the team to press in pairs to trigger a press. Furthermore, the movement of Griezmann and Sorloth creates constant threat through combination play in tight spaces.
