Starting Lineup

Levski aims to control the tempo through a heavy presence in the center of the pitch using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to play a vertical style of football that relies on quick transitions and central dominance. By packing the middle, the team intends to squeeze the space in the central corridors and force opponents into less dangerous areas.

The goalkeeper acts as the first point of distribution within a defensive unit that employs a back three. The LCB, CB, and RCB form a narrow defensive block designed to protect the central zone. The CB stays central to command the line, while the LCB and RCB provide cover and can step up to engage attackers. This back three works together to defend zonally, ensuring they cover the width of the box when the opposition attacks the flanks.

In the middle of the park, the team employs a three-man midfield with a single pivot acting as the anchor. The CDM shields the defence by sitting in front of the back three to intercept passes. Beside the pivot, the LCM and RCM operate as two inverted eights who connect the defensive and attacking lines. They are tasked to carry the ball forward and find the feet of the attackers. The LM and RM provide the necessary width, acting as wing backs who must track back to help the defence and then push up to support the transition.

The attacking line features two forwards working in a partnership to stretch the opposition. The LCF and RCF operate as a duo, often looking to combine in tight spaces or run in behind the defensive line. They use their movement to pin the last defender, creating space for the LCM and RCM to arrive late into the box. When the team wins the ball, the LCF and RCF press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

One major advantage of this Levski formation is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows the team to control the central area. The presence of the LM and RM also allows for wide overloads when they overlap the midfielders during the attacking phase. Additionally, the compact nature of the three center backs makes the team very difficult to break down through the middle.

Levski relies on a central core to dominate matches and control the rhythm of the game. This 3-5-2 is best suited for games against teams that play with a narrow midfield or struggle to handle constant pressure in the central channels.
