River plays a very vertical style of football to catch opponents off guard. This 2-4-4 formation focuses on heavy pressure and immediate attacking intent. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and drive straight toward the goal. This lineup seeks to overwhelm the opposition with numbers in the final third.

Armani stays between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive unit relies on a narrow two man line with Pezzella and Paulo. Pezzella uses his aerial strength and ability to read the game to stop direct balls. Paulo needs to cover the space behind the midfield as they step up. This high line requires the two center backs to be ready to sprint back to cover any long balls.

The midfield uses a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Villagra and Aliendro work together to win the second ball and recycle possession. Villagra tries to carry the ball forward to link the play, while Aliendro stays more central to shield the two defenders. Bustos and Enzo provide the width in the midfield line, acting as wide players who can press high or drop back to help the defense. They connect the back line to the four attackers.

In the final third, River uses four attackers to pin the opposition defense. Borja and Colidio act as a striking partnership, with Borja often looking to hold up the ball for others. Echeverri and Mastantuono operate as wide attackers who frequently cut inside to find space between the lines. The team looks to play through the lines with quick passes to the forwards. They aim to create runs in behind or use the wingers to get to the byline and cut it back to the center.

One major advantage for River is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having four players close to the opposition back line, they trigger a press very early. Another strength is the numerical superiority in the attacking zone. Having four forwards makes it hard for a standard back four to mark every runner. This formation also allows for quick transitions when the ball is won in the middle third.

This 2-4-4 formation is built for extreme attacking pressure and verticality. It is best used when facing an opponent that sits deep and struggles to deal with constant numbers in the box.
