Starting Lineup

Šibenik relies on a low block and rapid transitions, utilizing a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and remain compact, making it very difficult for opponents to find space between the lines. The team focuses on absorbing pressure and looking to strike quickly once the ball is won back.

Santini operates between the posts as the last line of defense. The defensive unit functions as a back five, consisting of Majić, Roca, and Iyendjock in the center. Majić acts as the central anchor while Roca and Iyendjock cover the channels. The wide defenders, Kolega and Božić, act as attacking wing backs who provide width when the team moves forward, but they must track back quickly to form a five man line when defending. This unit aims to squeeze the space in front of them and force the opposition to play wide.

The midfield works as a flat four to protect the defensive line. Punčec and Agyemang sit in the middle to shield the center, with Punčec looking to win the second ball and Agyemang driving the ball forward when space opens up. On the flanks, Žuta and Perić occupy the wide areas to track opposing full backs and help the wing backs. This midfield group stays narrow to prevent through balls, ensuring they can quickly shift to the side of the ball to block passing lanes.

Up front, Đaković acts as a lone striker. He is tasked with holding up the ball to allow the midfield to move up the pitch. The attacking plan involves Đaković finding space to receive a pass and then laying it off to oncoming runners. The team uses the width provided by Kolega and Božić to stretch the defense, often looking to hit in behind the opposition on the transition. The wingers, Žuta and Perić, will push up to support the lone striker and create numbers in the final third.

Šibenik gains a major advantage from their compactness when defending, making it hard for teams to break through the middle. The formation also allows for wide overloads when Kolega and Božić join the attack, creating extra passing options. This allows the team to switch play quickly to find isolated players on the flanks.

This 5-4-1 formation provides Šibenik with a very solid defensive base. It is best suited for matches against high possession teams where the goal is to defend deep and strike on the break.
