Alte. Brown Football Formation
Starting Lineup
PONA · JOACO · PIBI · PIPA · CHINCHU · TITO · SANTI · EZE · AGU · NAHUE · FACUAlte. Brown focuses on a defensively solid identity, working primarily within a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting opponents on the transition. By using a back five, the team aims to stay compact and make it hard for the opposition to find space between the lines. The intent is to frustrate the opponent and then use speed to break quickly once the ball is won.
PONA stands in goal to anchor the defense. The back line uses a wide back five where TITO sits in the center, with PIBI and PIPA acting as the wide center backs to cover the channels. JOACO and CHINCHU act as attacking wing backs to provide width. Specifically, JOACO pushes high to overlap the winger on the right, while CHINCHU is tasked to track back and protect the left flank. The unit works to defend zonally and squeeze the space whenever the opponent tries to move forward.
The midfield uses a three-man unit to bridge the gap between the defense and the front line. SANTI and EZE act as a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. While SANTI works to protect the center, EZE looks to carry the ball forward to progress through the thirds. AGU plays as an attacking ten behind the two forwards. In this role, AGU tries to find pockets of space to receive on the half-turn and play through the lines, allowing the team to recycle possession and move the ball forward.
Up front, Alte. Brown utilizes two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defense. FACU acts as a target man to hold up the ball and lay it off, while NAHUE looks to make runs in behind to exploit the high line. When the team wins the ball, they aim to hit in behind on the transition. The wing backs, JOACO and CHINCHU, often overlap to create wide overloads, looking to whip it in for the strikers.
The formation offers clear tactical advantages, particularly the ability to create wide overloads from the movement of JOACO and CHINCHU. This forces the opposition to defend the flanks and can create chances to cut it back. Another strength is the compactness when defending in a low block. By keeping the distance between the lines small, they deny the turn to attackers and make it difficult to play through the lines. The speed of transition allows the team to counter at pace.
This 5-3-2 formation provides a reliable way for Alte. Brown to stay hard to beat. It is a formation best suited for facing teams that dominate possession and require a side that can sit deep and strike on the break.
