Starting Lineup

Meslier · J. Firpo · Wöber · Struijk · Rodon · Gruev · Ampadu · Rutter · Aaronson · James · Gnonto

Leeds look to win the ball back high up the pitch with a high press in a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup focuses on verticality and direct movement to catch opponents out of position. The team wants to play with high intensity to squeeze the space in the middle of the park.

Meslier stays between the posts to organize the back line. A back three forms the base with Wöber, Rodon, and Struijk acting as the central defensive unit. Rodon and Struijk provide cover on the sides while Wöber acts as the central anchor to intercept passes and win the second ball. This unit works together to step up and play out from the back when they have time.

The midfield operates as a central pairing to control the middle. Ampadu and Gruev occupy the central roles to shield the defence and recycle possession. Ampadu works to deny the pivot of the opposition while Gruev looks to carry the ball forward and connect the lines. On the flanks, James and J. Firpo act as wide midfielders who provide the width for Leeds. James pushes high to overlap the winger while J. Firpo can push forward to help the attack.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Rutter leads the line as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender. Gnonto and Aaronson play as wide attackers who want to cut inside and find the feet of the striker. Gnonto uses his dribbling style to beat his man one on one while Aaronson looks to make runs in behind. They combine in tight spaces to create chances through quick passing and movement.

This formation offers Leeds several tactical advantages. The wide midfielders create overloads by pushing high to support the front three. Having three central defenders allows the team to stay compact when defending a lead. The setup also allows for quick transitions when James or J. Firpo recover the ball in the middle third.

Leeds utilize a high intensity system built to overwhelm opponents through width and pressure. This lineup is best suited for games where the opponent tries to build play slowly from the back.
