Starting Lineup

Rodri · Valverde · Mbappe · Haaland · Savinho · Vini. Jr · Rüdiger · Carvajal · R. Dias · Dimarco · Courtois

Citizen looks to play a direct and aggressive game using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on heavy pressure and rapid transitions to catch the opposition off guard. By pushing many players forward, the team intends to overwhelm the opponent in their own half and strike with massive power.

Courtois guards the goal and acts as the last line of defense. A flat back four consists of Carvajal at right back and Dimarco at left back. Rüdiger and R. Dias occupy the central defender spots to maintain a solid line. Rüdiger provides immense aerial strength while R. Dias stays concentrated to cover space. Carvajal and Dimarco are expected to push up to provide width, but they must track back quickly when possession is lost to prevent being caught out.

The midfield operates with a double pivot to provide a central engine. Rodri sits deep to shield the defense and recycle possession, using his elite passing range to find teammates. Valverde plays alongside him as a carrier to drive the ball forward and link the defensive unit to the attack. This pair must work hard to win the second ball and ensure the gaps between the midfield and the defense do not become too large.

The attacking line is extremely dangerous with four players positioned high. Haaland and Mbappe operate as a central partnership, with Haaland acting as a target man while Mbappe looks to run in behind. Vini. Jr and Savinho occupy the wide areas as inverted wingers who cut inside to create chaos. This front four is designed to press from the front and force the opposition back into their own box, often looking to hit in behind on the transition.

One major advantage for Citizen is the speed of transition through the forward line. The presence of Haaland and Mbappe allows the team to go direct and score quickly once the ball is won. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Carvajal and Dimarco overlap the wingers. This creates high pressure in the final third that is very difficult to defend.

This 4-2-4 formation is built for high intensity and attacking dominance. It is best suited for games where the team wants to overwhelm a lower block or exploit a high defensive line.
