Racing Club Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Arias (Cambeses) · Mura · Di Cesare · Sosa · Quirós · Rojas · Almendra · Barrios (Balta) · Maravilla · Salas · CarboneroRacing Club seeks to control games through a high press and quick transitions using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup relies on a compact defensive base to win the ball and immediately launch attacks toward the opposition goal. The team looks to play a vertical style of football that stretches the pitch once the ball is recovered.
Arias guards the goal as the lone goalkeeper in this system. The defensive unit works as a back five with Sosa acting as the central defender to anchor the line. Di Cesare and Quirós sit on either side as wide centre-backs to provide cover and win headers. The wing backs, Mura and Rojas, provide the necessary width. Mura is tasked to push high up the pitch to support the flank, while Rojas covers the left side to ensure the team can spread wide. This defensive block can sit deep or step up to squeeze the space in front of the back line.
The midfield consists of a two man unit featuring Barrios and Almendra. Barrios works to shield the defence and disrupt the opposition in the middle third. Almendra acts as the carrier to drive forward with the ball and connect the back line to the attack. These two must work hard to cover the ground between the defensive block and the front three. They often have to win the second ball to keep the pressure on the opponent.
In the final third, Racing Club utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender. Maravilla acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and fight for position. Carbonero and Salas play as wide attackers to provide service from the flanks. Carbonero often looks to cut inside to create numbers in the middle, while Salas seeks to get to the byline and whip it in. The front three press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to create wide overloads when Mura and Rojas push forward. The team can also maintain high levels of compactness when defending in a mid block. By using a back five, Racing Club is well positioned to defend against teams that play with two strikers.
The 5-2-3 formation provides Racing Club with a strong balance between defensive stability and attacking width. It is a setup best suited for facing teams that rely on counter attacks or play with wide wingers.
