Dender EH relies on a direct and counter attacking identity through a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to absorb pressure and hit opponents on the break with speed. The goal is to remain compact in the middle and use the width of the pitch only when transition moments arise.

Verrips operates between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back five consists of Ruyssen as the central figure, flanked by Cools on the left and Ferraro on the right. These three central defenders aim to win the second ball and stay close together to minimize gaps. On the flanks, Hrncar and Pupe act as attacking wing backs. They must track back to form a five man block when out of possession, but they are expected to push high to provide width during attacks.

The midfield works as a three man midfield with a carrier. Rodes sits in the middle to shield the defence and recycle possession. Květ and Hens operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Hens and Květ look to carry the ball forward to bridge the gap between the back five and the forwards. They must also press in a mid block to stop the opposition from playing through the lines.

Dender EH uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Soladio and Nsimba operate as a duo that can work together to hold up the ball or make runs in behind. They are tasked to press the opposition back line to force a long ball. When the ball moves wide, the wing backs Hrncar and Pupe look to overlap the attackers to create crosses. The movement of the two strikers aims to pin the last defender and create space for late runs from the midfield.

This formation offers significant compactness when defending a lead or facing heavy pressure. By using a back five, Dender EH creates numerical superiority in the box against teams playing with two strikers. The team also benefits from the speed of transition when the wing backs move forward to support the strikers.

The 5-3-2 formation provides Dender EH with a solid base to absorb pressure and strike on the break. It is best suited for games against dominant teams that control possession and leave space behind their high line.
