Lazio looks to dominate games through a high press and rapid verticality with a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in their own half by crowding the attacking third and forcing errors. The intent is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately move it forward to exploit spaces behind the defensive line.

Peruzzi sits between the posts to manage the defensive unit. The defensive line consists of only two central defenders, Nesta and F.COUTO, who must maintain a high line to squeeze the space. Nesta acts as a ball playing defender with his ability to read the game, while F.COUTO provides cover and strength. Because there are only two players in the back, they must defend zonally and communicate constantly to avoid being caught out by long balls.

The midfield operates as a four man block designed to control the center and provide protection. STAM acts as the single pivot to shield the two defenders and win the second ball. Ahead of him, MIHAJLOVIC, SIMEONE, and ALMEYDA provide a heavy presence to win possession and progress the ball. MIHAJLOVIC and SIMEONE work to drive forward with the ball and link the play, while ALMEYDA helps to recycle possession and ensure the midfield remains compact when the team loses the ball.

Lazio uses a heavy front line of four attackers to pin the opposition back. NEDVED and STANCKOVIC occupy the wide areas as inverted wingers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. In the center, SALAS plays as a pressing centre-forward to harass the defenders, while BOKSIC/KLOSE acts as the primary target to finish chances. This front four works to stretch the defence and create runs in behind, often using quick combinations to bypass the opponent.

One major tactical advantage for Lazio is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build from the back. The formation also offers numerical superiority in the attacking third, which helps to isolate wide players in one on one situations.
