Armani acts as the goalkeeper behind a very narrow defensive line. Pezzella and P. Díaz form a central pair of defenders who must stay alert to cover the space behind them. Because there are only two central defenders, Pezzella and P. Díaz must be ready to step up to intercept passes or drop to protect the space behind. The unit functions by squeezing the space between the back line and the midfield to keep the opponent from playing out from the back.

The midfield is composed of a central block that connects the defense to the attack. Villagra works to shield the defense and recycle possession in the middle. E. Díaz and Bustos operate in the half spaces to drive forward with the ball and link the play.
