Westerlo Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Bolat · Reynolds · Vušković · Neustädter · Bos (Rommens) · Haspolat · Piedfort · Madsen · Mebude · Stassin · SayyadmaneshWesterlo looks to play a very direct and vertical game to catch opponents off guard. This high intensity style relies on a 4-2-4 formation designed to stretch the pitch and flood the attacking zone. The team aims to win the ball and move it forward with speed to catch the opposition before they can set their defensive block.
Bolat stays between the posts to command the area and clear the lines. The defensive unit works as a flat back four with Reynolds on the right and Bos on the left. In the middle, Vušković and Neustädter form the central partnership. Vušković and Neustädter must stay compact to protect the centre, while Reynolds and Bos are tasked to push up and provide width. This lineup requires the defenders to be ready to track back quickly if the team loses possession high up the pitch.
The midfield functions as a double pivot where Haspolat and Piedfort hold the centre. These two players act as the primary shield for the defence, working to intercept passes and recycle possession. Haspolat and Piedfort need to be mobile to cover the wide areas when the full backs push forward. They connect the back four to the front four by playing through the lines and ensuring the team can transition from defence to attack without losing control.
In the attacking third, the team utilizes four players to pin the last defender. Mebude and Sayyadmanesh operate as wide wingers, with Mebude looking to cut inside and Sayyadmanesh looking to spread the width. Up front, Madsen and Stassin play as a central pair. Madsen and Stassin work to find space between the centre backs, looking to make runs in behind or receive the ball to hold up play. The front four press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
One major advantage of this Westerlo lineup is the ability to create numerical superiority in the final third. By having four dedicated attackers, the team can easily overload the opposition back line. Another strength is the capacity to press high in coordinated waves, using the front four to trigger a press. This makes it difficult for opponents to build play out from the back.
This 4-2-4 formation creates a highly aggressive and attacking identity. It is best suited for games where the team needs to score frequently or against opponents that struggle to handle high pressure.
