In front of them, Denilson/Oscar and Dagoberto/Tardelli operate as attacking midfielders in the half spaces. These players are tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly feed the front line.

The attacking front line uses three players to stretch the opposition defense. Adriano/Chulapa and Grafite/Thiago Ribeiro act as wide wingers, with Adriano/Chulapa looking to cut inside and Grafite/Thiago Ribeiro finding space on the flank. Luizao/Cristian operates as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of the oncoming midfielders. This attacking trio works to pin the last defender and create runs in behind. The movement is designed to create combinations in tight spaces and provide plenty of options for crosses or through balls.

São Paulo gains a massive advantage through numerical superiority in the midfield and attacking zones. The five players in the middle allow the team to compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposing playmakers.
