Celta Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Marc Vidal · Manquillo · Starfelt · Carlos · Mingueza · Ristic · Damián · Jailson · Aspas · Bamba · DouvikasCelta aims to play with high intensity and directness using a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to press the opposition high up the pitch and look to hit them on the transition. The team focuses on winning the ball back quickly and using the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition.
Marc Vidal plays between the posts to start the build up. The back line operates as a back three with Starfelt acting as the central defender to win the header and command the area. Carlos plays as the left centre back to cover the space behind the wing back, while Manquillo sits as the right centre back to provide defensive solidity. This defensive unit stays compact to deny the turn to attackers.
The midfield functions as a central pairing of Damián and Jailson. Damián works to shield the defence and intercept passes, while Jailson acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball. They connect the back three to the front line by finding the feet of the attackers. The wide players Mingueza and Ristic provide the necessary width, often pushing up to support the attack and helping to squeeze the space in the middle.
Up front, the team utilizes three attackers to pin the last defender. Douvikas plays as a pressing centre forward to lead the line and hold up the ball. Bamba operates on the left wing to cut inside and create goalscoring chances, whereas Aspas plays on the right wing. Aspas is known for his technical ability and vision to play through the lines. These forwards work in combinations to create runs in behind and deliver early crosses into the box.
A major advantage for Celta is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to force a long ball from the opponent. The formation also offers wide overloads when Mingueza and Ristic push high to double up on the opposition wingers. This creates space in the channels for Bamba and Aspas to exploit during transitions.
This 3-4-3 formation relies on aggressive pressing and quick movement to break the lines. It is best suited for games where the team can exploit the space left behind an advanced opposition midfield.
