Starting Lineup

Arsenal plays a high press game built around an aggressive 2-5-3 formation. This lineup seeks to dominate the ball in the opponent's half and win it back high up the pitch through immediate pressure. The goal is to use a heavy central presence to control the tempo and overwhelm the opposition through the middle and the flanks.

Ramsdale acts as the lone goalkeeper, often playing a high line to sweep behind the two central defenders. Saliba and Gabriel form a compact back two, with Saliba using his pace to cover ground while Gabriel uses his aerial strength to defend set pieces and crosses. Because there are only two players in the back line, they must stay tight to prevent through balls, trusting the midfield to defend in front of them.

The midfield is a massive five man block that connects the defense to the attack. Rice operates as the central anchor to shield the defense and win the second ball, while Ødegaard (C) plays as the creative engine to find passing lanes and control the ball. Calafiori plays on the left to provide width, while White stays on the right to act as a wide midfielder who can support the attack. Havertz plays in the hole as an attacking midfielder to link the play and make late runs into the box.

In the final third, Arsenal uses three attackers to pin the opposition back. Jesus leads the line as a pressing centre-forward to harass the defenders, while Saka and Martinelli occupy the wide areas. Saka works to isolate defenders one on one on the right, and Martinelli cuts inside from the left to create goal scoring chances. The forwards press from the front in a coordinated way to force a long ball from the opposition.

One major advantage for Arsenal is the numerical superiority in the midfield, which allows them to control the central areas of the pitch. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when White and Calafiori push high to support the wingers. This formation also allows for a very high press that can win the ball back quickly in attacking positions.
