Prioritizing a compact defensive block and quick transitions, Partizan operates in a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the central areas and forcing the opposition to play wide before striking on the break. The goal is to stay organized and use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition when the ball is won.

A. Jovanovic stays between the posts to organize the defensive line. Partizan utilizes a flat back four where Djurdjevic and Jurcevic act as full backs to provide width. Markovic (C), the captain, leads the central pairing alongside Mujakic. Markovic provides aerial strength and leadership while Mujakic acts as a covering defender to sweep behind the line. This defensive unit works to stay close together and squeeze the space between the lines to prevent penetrative passes.

The midfield is built around a five man unit to dominate the middle of the pitch. Natcho acts as a deep lying playmaker to recycle possession and find teammates. Arriaga sits beside him to shield the defense and win the second ball. Zahid, Trifunovic, and Severina occupy the central and half spaces to connect the defense to the attack. Zahid and Severina work to drive forward with the ball, while Trifunovic helps press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch.

D. Jovanovic leads the line as a lone striker. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfield to push up and join the attack. When the team wins possession, the wide midfielders and full backs look to move into space to support him. The attack relies on quick combinations to create runs in behind the opposition defenders. D. Jovanovic works to pin the last defender, creating gaps for the arriving midfielders like Zahid to exploit.

Partizan gains a significant advantage through their compactness when defending in a mid block. This makes it very hard for opponents to play through the center. The formation also allows for rapid speed of transition, using the ball to move from the defensive third to the attacking third in very few passes. By flooding the midfield, they can often create numerical superiority to control the tempo of the game.

This 4-5-1 formation is built to be defensively solid and lethal on the break. It is most effective against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high line.
