Starting Lineup

Leeds seeks to dominate games through high intensity and verticality in a 2-5-3. This formation is built to squeeze the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch. By using a narrow defensive core, Leeds aims to force opponents into wide areas where they can trap them and transition quickly.

Meslier sits behind a very aggressive line to act as a sweeping goalkeeper when the team pushes forward. The back line consists of a back two with Pascal and Rodon acting as the central defenders. Both Pascal and Rodon must be ready to step up to intercept through balls or cover large spaces behind them. Since there are no traditional full backs in this lineup, these two must remain central to prevent being pulled out of position, relying on the midfielders to handle wide threats.

The midfield operates in a five man unit that provides both width and central control. Ampadu and Gruev form a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Aronson sits just ahead of them to connect the defensive and attacking lines. On the flanks, Firpo plays as a left attacking midfielder to provide width, while Bogul occupies the right attacking midfield role to drive forward. This group must stay compact to prevent the opposition from playing through the middle.

Leeds uses three attackers across the front to stretch the opposition defense. Gnonto and James act as wide wingers who look to isolate defenders one on one. Gnonto stays wide to pull the defense apart, while James looks to carry the ball forward and drive at the back line. Joseph acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and provide a focal point for the team to find the feet of the striker during build up. The goal is to create runs in behind through quick combinations.

One major advantage for Leeds is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back quickly. This formation also offers great speed of transition when the ball is won in the middle third. By having five players in the midfield, the team can often find numerical superiority in the center to control the tempo of the game.

This lineup is a high risk high reward system built for aggressive pressing. It is best suited for games where Leeds wants to overwhelm an opponent through sheer intensity and vertical passing.
