This lineup is built to sit deep and wait for the opposition to commit numbers forward before hitting them on the transition. The focus for River is to remain compact and solid, relying on a disciplined block to frustrate the opponent before looking to break quickly.

Borja sits between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a back five with Peña and Villagra acting as the central defenders to win the header and clear the lines when under pressure. Echeverri sits in front of them to help cover the space. On the flanks, Mastantuono acts as an attacking wing back on the left while Maxi Meza provides similar width on the right to stretch the defence. This defensive unit works to maintain a narrow defensive block to deny the turn and force the opposition wide.

The midfield operates as a flat four to maintain compactness when defending. Pezzella and P. Díaz play as the central duo to shield the defence and win the second ball in the middle of the park.
