Starting Lineup

SK Rapid relies on a high intensity game built around a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is designed to dominate the middle of the pitch and squeeze the space in the opposition half through a heavy press. By utilizing such a narrow defensive base, the team looks to control the tempo and win the ball back quickly to launch direct attacks.

Hedl operates as the goalkeeper, acting as the last line of defense behind a very high line. The back line consists of only two central defenders, Raux Yao and Cvetkovic, who must stay compact to avoid being caught out by long balls. They often play as ball playing defenders to help build out from the back, but they must also be ready to step up to set the offside trap. Because there are only two defenders, they often rely on the midfield to track back and cover the wide areas when the team loses possession.

The midfield is the engine room for SK Rapid, featuring a five man unit that dominates the central zones. Bolla and J. Auer form a double pivot to shield the defense, with Bolla providing a physical presence to win the second ball. Grgic and Oswald operate as the two central midfielders, working to press in pairs and carry the ball forward into the attacking third. Seidl plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines to create scoring chances. This midfield group works to compress the midfield and ensure the team maintains a high line.

In the final third, the attack uses three players to stretch the opposition. Beljo acts as the pressing centre-forward, working to pin the last defender and hold up the ball for others. Jansson and Lang act as wide wingers, with Jansson pulling wide to provide width and Lang looking to cut inside to threaten the goal. This combination of a central striker and two wide attackers allows the team to attack in combinations and create runs in behind. The goal is to move the ball quickly from the midfield to the forwards to hit the opposition on the transition.

One major tactical advantage for SK Rapid is the numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it difficult for opponents to play through the center. The coordination of the five midfielders allows the team to press high in coordinated waves, forcing mistakes near the opponent's goal. Additionally, the presence of Seidl between the lines creates constant danger, as he can arrive late into the box to finish moves.
