Starting Lineup

Racing Club relies on a high press and quick transitions through a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to squeeze the pitch and use wide areas to stretch the opposition. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch to launch immediate attacks before the opponent can get organized.

Rodríguez guards the goal as the defensive unit sits in a compact back five. Rastelli holds the central position to anchor the line while García and Palma operate as the wider centre-backs. García and Palma help to cover the space when the wing backs push forward. Gutiérrez and Fonda act as attacking wing backs, providing width and depth on each flank. The defensive unit works to defend zonally and maintain a narrow block to deny central access.

The midfield consists of a two man unit with Simes and Méndez operating in the central channels. Simes and Méndez must work hard to cover the ground between the defensive line and the front three. They act as the link to progress through the thirds and recycle possession when the attack stalls. Simes often tries to carry the ball forward to break the line, while Méndez helps to win the second ball in the middle of the pitch.

Racing Club utilizes three attackers to pin the opposition back. Bravo operates as a pressing centre-forward to lead the hunt from the front. Gagliardo and Salvini play as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create chances. Gagliardo stays wide to pull defenders out of position, while Salvini looks to find space between the lines. The front line uses combinations to find Bravo, often looking for runs in behind or cutbacks from the byline.

This formation offers significant advantages in transition and defensive stability. The back five provides compactness when defending a lead, making it difficult for opponents to find gaps. Racing Club also creates wide overloads because Gutiérrez and Fonda push high to support the wingers.
