Starting Lineup

Racing Club aims to play a high press with a direct attacking style using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and strike quickly before the opponent can settle. The team relies on verticality to move the ball from the defensive third into the final third with speed.

Rodríguez starts between the posts to anchor the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back three consisting of Rastelli, García Pérez, and García. Rastelli acts as the central defender to sweep behind the line and organize the defensive block. García Pérez and García provide cover and step up to intercept passes. The wide defenders, Gutiérrez and Fonda, act as attacking wing backs to provide width and stretch the defence. They must track back to defend when the team loses the ball and form a five man line to protect the area.

The midfield consists of a double pivot made up of Simes and Méndez. These two players work to connect the defence and attack while also helping to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch. Simes often carries the ball forward to drive into the half spaces, while Méndez works to win the second ball and recycle possession. They must stay close together to avoid being bypassed in the center and to protect the central defenders if the high press fails.

In the attacking third, Racing Club employs three attackers across the front. Bravo acts as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender and provide a focal point for long balls. On the flanks, Sued and Boyé operate as wide wingers who stay high to threaten runs in behind. Sued and Boyé look to isolate a one on one wide against full backs or cut inside to create chances. The attack works in combinations to find the feet of the striker or to deliver crosses from the wide areas.

This formation offers several tactical advantages for Racing Club. The use of Gutiérrez and Fonda allows for wide overloads when they push up to overlap the wingers. The team can also maintain compactness when defending by dropping into a low block with five players across the back. This setup creates speed of transition, allowing the front three to exploit space immediately after winning the ball in the midfield.
