Pezzella and Paulo Diaz operate as the central defensive pair, with Pezzella providing aerial strength and Paulo Diaz acting as a covering defender to sweep behind the line. Bustos plays as a right back who looks to push forward and overlap, while Acuña stays as a left back to balance the width. This defensive unit works to maintain a high line to squeeze the space between the lines.

The midfield is built around a double pivot consisting of Chileno and Villagra. These two must work hard to shield the defense and recycle possession when the team faces pressure. Chileno acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward, while Villagra focuses on covering ground and intercepting passes to break the play. Their main job is to connect the defensive unit to the heavy front line and provide a platform for the attackers to operate.

In the attacking phase, River utilizes four forwards to pin the opposition back.
