W. Aguerre stays between the posts to command the penalty area. The back line functions as a narrow defensive block with three central defenders. J. Méndez sits in the middle to win the second ball, while Léo Coelho and M. Oliveira provide cover on either side. The wide defenders are expected to work hard, with D. Suárez acting as a right wing back and F. Angileri playing as a left wing back. They must track back to defend the flanks but also push up when the team wins the ball to provide width.

The midfield operates as a flat four to maintain a compact block. B. Rodríguez (C) operates on the right side to help with the press and move the ball forward, while E. Darias stays on the left to cover the wide areas. In the center, G. Ramírez and Léo Fndz work to protect the space in front of the back three. These players must stay close together to deny the turn to opposition midfielders and ensure there are no gaps between the lines. They focus on winning the ball and immediately looking for the striker.

Peñarol uses a lone striker, M. Silvera, to lead the line. Silvera must hold up the ball to allow the midfield to move up the pitch. The attacking play is built on quick transitions rather than slow buildup. When the ball is recovered, the wing backs, D. Suárez and F. Angileri, look to run into space to stretch the defence. This creates chances for Silvera to link up with the wide players or find space in behind the opposition defenders.
