Starting Lineup

Arias (C) · Mura · Di Cesare · Colombo · Rojas · Sosa · Almendra · Nardoni · Quintero · A. Martinez · Salas/ Carbonero

Racing Club prioritizes extreme control of the center of the pitch through a 2-6-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle third and squeeze the opponent into their own half. The goal is to overwhelm the opposition with a massive midfield presence to control the tempo and dictate play through the center.

Arias (C) commands the goal as the goalkeeper and leader of the team. The defensive unit consists of a very narrow back two with Di Cesare and Colombo acting as the central defenders. Because there are only two players in the back line, they must play a very high line to compress the pitch and squeeze the space. Di Cesare and Colombo must be dominant in the air and quick to cover when the opposition tries to hit in behind on the transition.

A massive midfield unit connects the defense to the attack. Mura and Sosa work as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and win the second ball. Rojas sits just ahead of them to help recycle possession and protect the center. Further forward, Nardoni, Almendra, and Quintero operate in the half spaces. Quintero uses his passing range to break the lines, while Almendra uses his dribbling to carry the ball forward. Nardoni presses aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and trigger a press.

The attacking phase relies on a two man partnership up front. Salas or Carbonero operates as the left striker and works closely with A. Martinez on the right. These two forwards look to find the feet of the strikers or make runs in behind the defense. Large numbers in the middle mean the strikers often receive the ball in combinations or through third man runs. The team focuses on attacking through the middle to create chaos and force the opposition to collapse inward.

This formation offers clear tactical advantages. The primary benefit is numerical superiority in midfield, which allows the team to keep possession and dictate play. Another strength is the ability to press in coordinated waves, as the six midfielders can swarm the opponent. This constant pressure makes it difficult for the opposition to play short from the back or find a way out of their own half.

This 2-6-2 lineup is a high risk and high reward system designed for total territorial dominance. It is best suited for games where Racing Club faces an opponent that sits in a low block and lacks the numbers to counter the midfield overload.
