Arsenal looks to control matches through high pressing and quick ball movement in a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and use a dense central presence to dominate the middle of the ground. By playing with a compact unit, the team can shift between a high press and a mid-block to control the rhythm of the game.

David Raya plays behind a flat back four that looks to play out from the back. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes act as the central pairing, with Saliba using his recovery pace and Magalhaes providing aerial strength to defend the box. Ben White operates as a right back to help provide width, while Riccardo Calafiori sits at left back to offer more control in the build up. The defensive unit works to squeeze the space between the lines and ensure they do not get caught out when the team pushes up.

The midfield is a five man unit that can shift into different roles depending on the phase of play. Declan Rice and Mikel Merino form a double pivot to shield the defense and win the second ball. Martin Odegaard, the captain, operates in the half spaces to link the midfield to the attack with his passing range. Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka push higher up the pitch to provide much needed width. This group connects the defense to the attack by recycling possession and playing through the lines.

In the attacking phase, Kai Havertz acts as a lone striker to lead the line. He often drops deep to find the feet of the striker or to link up with the midfielders, creating space for others to run into. Bukayo Saka moves into advanced positions to threaten the flank, while Gabriel Martinelli uses his pace to attack the space behind the defense. The team uses combinations to break the line and relies on Saka and Martinelli to provide width and deliver crosses into the box.

Arsenal gains a major advantage through their ability to press in coordinated waves. The central midfield of Rice and Merino allows the team to maintain compactness when defending. This formation also creates numerical superiority in the center of the pitch, making it difficult for opponents to bypass the midfield. The speed of transition from a mid-block to an attacking stance allows the team to hit opponents on the break very quickly.

This 4-5-1 formation provides Arsenal with a strong central core and the ability to dominate possession. It is a setup best suited for matches against teams that sit deep and require constant pressure to break down.
