Lille aims to win the ball high up the pitch and strike with speed in transition using a 4-5-1. Lucas Chevalier operates between the posts to command his area and start play. The back line functions as a flat back four where Tiago Santos and Gabriel Gudmundsson act as attacking full backs to provide width. In the center, Bafodé Diakité and Alexsandro defend the space, with Diakité using his recovery speed to cover the high line while Alexsandro stays firm to win the header. They work together to keep the defensive unit narrow and squeeze the space.

The midfield consists of a single pivot and two central midfielders with two players tucked into the half spaces. Benjamin André sits in front of the defense to shield the back four and win the second ball. Angel Gomes plays as a deep lying playmaker, using his passing range to progress through the thirds and link the defense to the attack. Hákon Haraldsson and Rémy Cabella work to control the tempo, with Cabella looking to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines. Edon Zhegrova pushes higher to act as a creative force in the half spaces, moving into positions to drive forward with the ball.

In the attacking phase, Lille relies on a lone striker in Jonathan David to lead the press from the front. David works to pin the last defender and hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to arrive late into the box. The wide players, particularly Zhegrova, cut inside to create central presence and overload the middle. This allows the team to attack in combinations, using quick passes to find David or waiting for overlaps from the full backs to deliver a cross.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press in coordinated waves and create numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. Lille can also use the speed of transition to exploit space behind the opposition defense once the ball is won back high up the pitch.
