SUZUKI (Chichizola / Corvi) · VALERI (Di Chiara / Coulibaly) · CIRCATI (Valenti / Osorio) · DELPRATO (Balogh) · COULIBALY (Delprato) · KEITA (Sohm / Cyprien) · BERNABE (Estevez / Hernani) · BENEDYCZAK+ (Mihaila / Almqvist) · SOHM (Bernabe/Hernani/Camara) · MAN (Cancellieri) · BONNY (Benedyczak+ / Kowalski)Parma focuses on a compact mid-block to congest the center of the pitch, utilizing a 4-5-1 formation. This formation is built to win the second ball and use the density of the midfield to transition quickly. By crowding the central areas, the team aims to disrupt the rhythm of the opposition and force them into wide areas where they are less dangerous.
Suzuki sits between the posts to command the area. The back line operates as a flat back four with Coulibaly at right back and Valeri at left back. Delprato and Circati act as the central defenders, focusing on holding the line and covering for the full backs when they push up. This defensive unit works to stay compact, squeezing the space between the defenders and the midfield to deny the turn to any oncoming attackers.
The midfield is the heart of this Parma lineup. Bernabe and Keita form a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes in the central zone. Ahead of them, Man and Benedyczak+ operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Sohm plays as an attacking ten, sitting in the hole to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box. This five man unit ensures that the team can recycle possession and protect the central passing lanes.
In the final third, Bonny acts as a lone striker to lead the line. He works as a pressing centre forward to trigger a press from the front and pin the last defender. Because the formation uses a narrow midfield, the attack relies on the ability of Sohm to link up play between the lines. When the team breaks quickly, Bonny looks to run in behind or hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to carry the ball forward.
One major advantage is the numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it difficult for opponents to play through the center. The coordination between the five midfielders allows the team to press in a mid-block and squeeze the space effectively. This compactness makes Parma very difficult to break down when they sit deep and wait for the right moment to hit in behind on the transition.
This 4-5-1 formation creates a hard to beat block that relies on central density and quick verticality. It is best suited for games against possession based teams that struggle to break down a crowded central area.
