Lecce Football Formation
Starting Lineup
FALCONE (Fruchtl / Borbei) · GALLO (Dorgu) · GASPAR (Bonifazi) · BASCHIROTTO (Jean) · GUILBERT (Pelmard) · RAMADANI (Hasa) · PIERRET (L. Coulibaly / Kaba) · MARCHWINSKI (Rafia / Oudin / Hasa) · MORENTE (Pierotti / Sansone) · DORGU (Rebic / Banda) · KRSTOVIC (Rebic)Lecce looks to play a very direct and vertical style of football with this 4-2-4 formation. The main idea is to win the ball high up the pitch and hit the opposition quickly. This lineup is built to stretch the defence and use the speed of the front four to catch opponents out of position.
In goal, Falcone acts as the last line of defence. The back four functions as a zonal line with Baschirotto and Gaspar operating as the central defenders. Baschirotto uses his aerial strength to win the header and clear the lines, while Gaspar provides cover to sweep behind the line. Gallo and Guilbert play as full backs who must balance their roles by tracking back to defend and pushing up to support the wings. The unit aims to stay compact when the ball is on the opposite side.
The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of Ramadani and Pierret. These two players are tasked to shield the defence and win the second ball when the initial press fails. Ramadani works to carry the ball forward and progress through the thirds, while Pierret helps to recycle possession and connect the defensive line to the attack. They must work hard to compress the midfield and deny the pivot of the opposition.
Moving to the attack, Lecce uses four players across the front to pin the last defender. Morente and Dorgu operate as wide attackers, with Dorgu looking to cut inside and Morente to spread wide. They push high to trigger a press from the front. Marchwinski and Krstovic play as a partnership in the centre, where Krstovic acts as a target man to hold up the ball and Marchwinski looks to arrive late into the box or run in behind. This front line is designed to create runs in behind and force the opposition to defend in deep spaces.
A major tactical strength of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By having four attackers, the team can squeeze the space and force a long ball from the opponent. This formation also creates wide overloads when Gallo and Guilbert overlap the winger, making it hard for the opposition to defend the flanks. The speed of transition allows the team to hit in behind on the transition before the opponent can set the offside trap.
This 4-2-4 formation is a risky and rewarding system built on aggression and verticality. It is best suited for matches where the opponent plays a slow build up from the back and can be caught by a heavy press.
