Monza plays with a heavy attacking intent using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition through constant pressure and high numbers in the attacking third. It is a vertical way to play, looking to get the ball into the box as quickly as possible and win the ball back high up the pitch.

DJURIC stays between the posts to command his area and manage the defense. The back line consists of a narrow back two with MOTA and MALDINI. Because there are only two central defenders, they often play a high line to squeeze the space and press the opposition. They must be ready to cover for each other and win the second ball if the initial press is bypassed. This defensive unit functions by staying compact to deny the turn and prevent through balls.

The midfield utilizes a flat four to connect the defense to the front line. PESSINA and BONDO occupy the central roles to shield the defense and move the ball forward. PESSINA works to recycle possession and hold the position, while BONDO looks to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. KYRIAKOPOULOS and PEREIRA sit on the flanks to provide width and support the transition. They help to win it back high up the pitch and switch play to the opposite side.

In the final third, Monza employs four attackers to pin the opposition back. IZZO and CALDIROLA act as wide players, with the intention to stay wide or cut inside to create space for teammates. MARI and TURATI form a central striking partnership to fight for headers and find the feet of the strikers. This front four aims to create runs in behind and deliver early crosses. They press from the front to force a long ball and win it back in advanced areas to maintain pressure.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, particularly numerical superiority in the attacking zone. By committing so many players forward, the team can create wide overloads and isolate wide players in one on one situations. The ability to press high in coordinated waves makes it difficult for the opponent to play out from the back and forces them to clear the lines.

This 2-4-4 formation is designed for total offensive dominance through high pressure. It is best suited for games where the team needs to chase a result against an opponent that is sitting deep in a low block.
