Venezia Football Formation
Starting Lineup
JORONEN (Stankovic / Grandi) · SVERKO (Altare) · SVOBODA (Schingtienne) · IDZES (Candela) · ZAMPANO (Haps / Carboni) · CANDELA (Sagrado) · N. CAVIGLIA (Busio / Andersen) · DUNCAN (Doumbia) · BUSIO (Ellertsson) · ORISTANIO (Ellertsson) · POHJANPALO (Gytkjaer / Raimondo)Venezia focus on a high intensity, vertical game using a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to press high up the pitch and hit the opposition quickly in transition. The goal is to overwhelm the opponent in the final third by committing many players forward to create chaos.
POHJANPALO stays between the posts to manage the back line. The defensive unit is very thin with only two central defenders, BUSIO and ORISTANIO, sitting in a narrow defensive block. These two must be ready to cover huge spaces and win the second ball when the high press is bypassed. Since there is no traditional back four, BUSIO and ORISTANIO often have to act as covering defenders to sweep behind the line.
The midfield acts as a four man block to control the center and wide areas. DUNCAN and N. CAVIGLIA form a central pairing to shield the two defenders and win the ball back high up the pitch. CANDELA operates on the right side while ZAMPANO provides presence on the left. This midfield group works to recycle possession and find the forward lines as soon as they win the ball. DUNCAN often seeks to carry the ball forward to bridge the gap between the defense and the attack.
The attack is extremely aggressive with four players pushing against the opposition back line. SVOBODA and JORONEN operate as two central forwards to pin the last defender and win headers. SVERKO and IDZES play as wide attackers who want to cut inside and find space in the channels. This attacking group focuses on runs in behind to exploit any gaps left by the opposition. They aim to score through quick combinations and direct play.
Venezia gains a major advantage through the ability to press high in coordinated waves. This forces the opponent into mistakes in dangerous areas. The formation also offers speed of transition because the four attackers are always in a position to strike as soon as the midfield wins the ball. This creates constant pressure on the opponent.
This 2-4-4 formation relies on heavy pressing and quick attacking movements. It is best suited for games where the team wants to catch a high line off guard and dominate the attacking third.
