Stevenage Football Formation
Starting Lineup
RUIZ · CHAPARRO · LACUADRA · LOVATTO · TADEO · DURANTE · ROMERO · CHAPARRO · PELIQUERO · NUÑEZ · ZARATEStevenage aims to play a direct and aggressive game, using a 2-4-4 formation to overwhelm opponents. This lineup is built to press high and hit teams in transition with a heavy front line. The team wants to pin the opposition back and create chaos in the final third.
Ruiz stays between the posts to command the area. The defensive line consists of a back two where Lovatto and Lacuadra act as the central defenders. These two must be ready to cover large spaces when the team pushes high. They often act as ball playing defenders to start attacks from the back. Because there are only two, they must be dominant in the air and quick to step up to set the offside trap.
The midfield operates as a four man unit to provide coverage and drive play forward. Romero and Durante occupy the central roles, acting as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Romero connects the defensive and attacking lines while Durante tries to carry the ball forward. On the flanks, Tadeo and Chaparro work as wide midfielders to provide width. Tadeo stays wide to spread the play, while Chaparro helps to build triangles in the middle before moving higher.
The attacking unit is extremely heavy with four players across the front. Nuñez and Chaparro operate as wide wingers who want to cut inside to threaten the goal. Peliquero and Zarate lead the line as a two man partnership. They often combine in tight spaces to find the feet of each other. This front four is designed to press from the front and force a long ball from the opposition. The goal is to win the second ball and immediately launch attacks through the channels.
Stevenage gains a significant advantage through their ability to press high in coordinated waves. The high number of attackers allows them to squeeze the space in the opposition half. They also create wide overloads by having the midfielders and wingers work together to isolate defenders. This setup makes it very difficult for the opposition to build play out from the back without feeling immediate pressure.
This formation is a high risk, high reward system built for heavy pressing and quick attacks. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or overwhelm a weaker side.
