Starting Lineup

PROVEDEL · ROMAGNOLI · GILA · MARUSIC · NUNO TAVARES · GUENDOUZI · DELE BASHIRU · ZACCAGNI · DIA · CASTELLANOS · NOSLIN

Lazio looks to play a vertical, high tempo game by using a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to attack with speed and use the front four to pin the opposition defence deep in their own half. The goal is to win the ball and quickly progress through the thirds to catch the opponent out of position.

PROVEDEL serves as the last line of defence in goal. The back four operates as a zonal line, with ROMAGNOLI and GILA acting as the central pairing. ROMAGNOLI is a ball playing defender who can pass out from the back to start attacks. NUNO TAVARES and MARUSIC play as wide defenders, with NUNO TAVARES often looking to push up to support the wingers. The defenders must hold a high line to squeeze the space and manage the offside trap.

The midfield relies on a double pivot with GUENDOUZI and DELE BASHIRU sitting in front of the defence. GUENDOUZI uses his high pressing intensity to trigger a press and win the ball high up the pitch. DELE BASHIRU helps to recycle possession and connect the back four to the attacking unit. This pair must work to cover the space between the lines and ensure the midfield is not bypassed easily.

Up front, the team uses a heavy attacking front line consisting of two strikers and two wingers. DIA and CASTELLANOS form a central partnership where they combine in tight spaces to break the line. ZACCAGNI and NOSLIN act as wide attackers to stretch the defence. ZACCAGNI often looks to cut inside to create chances, while the front four press from the front to force a long ball.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the final third. By having four players high up the pitch, Lazio can overwhelm the opposition defence. Another strength is the speed of transition, allowing the team to break quickly once the midfield wins possession. The width provided by NUNO TAVARES and MARUSIC also allows the team to spread wide and find the wingers in space.

This 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward lineup for a team that wants to play with aggression. It is best suited for games where Lazio can exploit a high defensive line or win the second ball in the attacking half.
