Racing Club looks to play with a vertical, high intensity identity through a 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition in the final third by flooding the attacking zones. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly transition to create numerical advantages in front of the goal.
Maxi Salas stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The formation utilizes a narrow defensive block with only two central defenders, R. Martínez and A. Almendra, who must hold the line and cover vast amounts of space. These two defenders need to be dominant in the air and quick to intercept runners. Because there are no full backs in a traditional sense, R. Martínez and A. Almendra often have to step up to squeeze the space and prevent long balls from bypassing the midfield.
The midfield functions as a central engine room designed to protect the two defenders while pushing the game forward. M. Barrios and B. Zuculini operate as a double pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. M. Barrios acts as the primary pivot to control the tempo and deny the turn to opposition attackers. Meanwhile, B. Zuculini works to win the second ball and carries the ball forward to connect the lines. On the flanks, G. Rojas and F. Mura provide the width, acting as wide midfielders who press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and support the attackers.
Racing Club employs a heavy attacking front line consisting of four players. L. Sigali and F. Cambeses work as a central partnership, with L. Sigali acting as a target man to hold up the ball and F. Cambeses looking to make runs in behind. The wide attackers, N. Colombo and G. Conti, act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create chaos in the half spaces. This creates a front four that can combine in tight spaces to split the defence with a through ball or deliver crosses from wide areas.
One major advantage of this 2-4-4 lineup is the ability to create wide overloads and constant pressure in the opposition box. By having four players close to the goal, Racing Club can pin the last defender and force errors. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the midfield can quickly find the feet of the strikers once the ball is recovered.
This formation is designed for a high risk, high reward style of play that relies on aggressive pressing. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a deep block or dominate an opponent through sheer offensive volume.
