Cutrone (10)Como aims to play a high tempo, vertical style of football with a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on heavy pressure in the final third and rapid transitions to catch the opposition out of position. By committing many bodies forward, the team seeks to pin the last defender and create chaos in the penalty area.
E. Audero starts in goal to organize the defensive unit. The back four consists of S. Roberto at right back and A. Moreno at left back, both prepared to push high to support the attack. In the center, R. Varane provides immense aerial strength and experience to lead the line, while A. Dossena covers the space beside him. This back four works as a unit to squeeze the space and keep the team compact when the opposition tries to build from the back.
The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide a layer of protection for the defense. M. Perrone and L. Mazzitelli work to control the center of the pitch, with the primary goal of winning the second ball and recycling possession. They must be ready to drop into a mid-block to prevent counter attacks or step up to trigger a press. Their main task is to connect the defense to the attack by finding the feet of the forwards or playing through the lines.
In the attacking phase, Como utilizes a heavy front four. G. Strefezza and L. Da Cunha play as wide wingers, with the instruction to cut inside and threaten the goal. N. Paz and P. Cutrone act as the two central forwards, working in a partnership to occupy the center backs. The attack is designed to create runs in behind and allow the wingers to isolate players in one on one situations. This front line will press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.
A major advantage for Como is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs join the attack. The formation also provides great speed of transition, as the four attackers can immediately spread wide to stretch the defence. This creates numerical superiority in the final third, making it difficult for opponents to track every runner.
This 4-2-4 formation relies on heavy attacking intent and high energy in the pressing game. It is a lineup best suited for games where Como wants to dominate possession and overwhelm the opponent with sheer numbers in the box.
