Starting Lineup

Muslera · Nelsson · Sanchez · Torreira · Sara · Mertens · Baris · Jakobs · Osimhen · Icardi · Abdulkerim

Galatasaray relies on a heavy high press and quick transitions through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use direct verticality to punish opponents. The system works to overwhelm the middle of the pitch while using wide players to stretch the game.

Muslera acts as the goalkeeper, playing a key role when the team plays out from the back. The defensive unit uses a back three consisting of Nelsson, Abdulkerim, and Sanchez. Nelsson provides stability, while Sanchez and Abdulkerim act as ball playing defenders to move the ball forward. The unit stays compact to protect the space behind the midfield. Sanchez often steps up to intercept play, whereas Abdulkerim uses his aerial strength to defend set pieces and crosses.

The midfield utilizes a three man midfield with a carrier and two central players to control the tempo. Torreira sits deep to shield the defence and press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch. Beside him, Sara and Mertens operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Sara can carry the ball forward to drive into the attack, while Mertens looks to play through the lines with precise passing. Jakobs and Baris act as wing backs, providing width and covering the flanks to ensure the team remains hard to break down.

Galatasaray employs two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Osimhen works as a pressing centre forward, using his pace to hit in behind on the transition. He is often paired with Icardi, who plays as a more traditional striker to hold up the ball and link up play between the lines. This duo creates constant movement, with Osimhen making runs in behind to stretch the defence while Icardi looks to arrive late into the box. The wing backs, Jakobs and Baris, provide much needed width by pushing high to deliver crosses into the area.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in midfield through the central trio. The team can also create wide overloads as Jakobs and Baris push up to support the attackers. The combination of a high press and the speed of transition allows the players to strike before the opposition can settle.

The 3-5-2 system provides Galatasaray with a potent attacking presence and a heavy midfield presence. It is best suited for games where the team needs to dominate possession or exploit spaces left by an attacking opponent.
